Hire Forward Deployed Engineers

AI-first engineers who deploy into your customer's business, not just a codebase. They're trained to run discovery with executives, codify success criteria, and ship production software under real stakeholder pressure.

The Fastest-Growing Role in AI Isn't a Research Position

AI models work in the demo and stall in the enterprise. The gap between a capable model and a deployed solution is closed by a person, and the market has priced that in.

Scarce Skill: Discovery

Customer discovery and stakeholder management is the fastest-growing requirement in FDE postings, not code

The bottleneck isn't code. It's engineers who can run discovery with executives, define success criteria, and deliver under ambiguity. That is exactly what Gauntlet trains.

What Is a Forward Deployed Engineer?

Deployed Into the Business

A Forward Deployed Engineer owns the full arc from discovery to production: uncovering business pain, quantifying it, securing stakeholder buy-in, prototyping fast, iterating live, and deploying the approved solution.

They sit in front of your customers and turn vague problems into shipped software, the role that makes enterprise AI actually land.

A Software Engineer, Plus

Every Gauntlet FDE clears the same bar as every Challenger: a rigorous cognitive skills test, merit-based selection, 3+ years of core software engineering experience, and weekly evaluation in program. Not everyone admitted makes it through.

The FDE designation is earned on top of that bar: through selection, an additional interview for the intangibles the role demands, and simulation under pressure.

How Gauntlet Forges FDEs

Ten weeks. The same forge as every Gauntlet engineer for the first three, then a discipline built around scoping, shipping in a hostile environment, and leaving the customer able to run it.

Discovery

Step 01

Uncover business pain, quantify the metrics that matter, identify key stakeholders, and begin defining success criteria.

Codify Success Criteria

Step 02

Document the problem statement and secure customer buy-in on the direction before a line of code is written.

Build the Prototype

Step 03

Ship a working prototype against the codified success criteria, fast, and grounded in what the stakeholder actually agreed to.

Present Live

Step 04

Demo the prototype to the stakeholder and take feedback in the room, credible in front of a senior audience.

Iterate and Re-Present

Step 05

Incorporate feedback and scope changes, adjust the build, and bring it back for approval.

Deploy

Step 06

Ship the final approved version to production. The cycle ends where your customer's ROI begins.

In the final weeks, FDE Challengers run this full cycle through a series of stakeholder simulations of increasing complexity: role-played discovery with a live stakeholder, real scope changes mid-build, and human-graded review of every delivery.

Hire on Evidence, Not Resumes

By the time you make an offer, you have watched every FDE run discovery, defend scope, and ship under pressure. The roster gives you the proof.

One Roster, Clearly Marked

  • Every FDE carries a badge on the same roster as our Applied AI engineers
  • Filter to FDEs in one click inside your partner portal
  • Tier access works the same way for both

A Real Body of Work

  • Production projects from the training weeks, displayed on the roster
  • Weekly evaluation history across all ten weeks
  • The same bar every Gauntlet engineer has to clear

Watch Them Under Pressure

  • Recorded demos delivered live to senior stakeholders
  • The discovery notes and scoping docs behind each build
  • A graded scorecard for every delivery

Interview With an Edge

  • Run cultural interviews in weeks 4–6, before anyone else is talking to them
  • Make your technical evaluation in weeks 7–9 against live simulation evidence
  • Land your offer before Demo Day

How FDE Hiring Works

You shape the cohort before the roster opens, then hire on what you watched them deliver. Roster access starts at your tier's week: Platinum week 4, Gold week 5, Silver week 6.

1

Scope Your Need

Tell us the roles you are hiring for and the problems they will own. We set up your partner portal and calibrate the FDE track to real partner demand.

Weeks 1–3
2

Meet the FDEs

Your roster opens at your tier's week. Review profiles and project work, and start cultural interviews while other channels are still screening resumes.

Weeks 4–6
3

Watch the Simulations

Stakeholder simulations run live in weeks 7–9: role-played discovery with executives, scope changes mid-build, and human-graded review of every delivery. The evidence lands on the roster as you interview against it.

Weeks 7–9
4

Close Your Offer

Submit your offer ahead of Demo Day and lock the start date. Your hire walks out of graduation and into your business.

Week 10

One Universal Credit.

One credit hires one engineer, FDE or Applied AI. Same tiers, same access timing, same partner experience. If you are already a partner, nothing about how you buy changes.

1

Credits Work Across the Roster

Your credits apply to any engineer on the roster. Hire two FDEs and an Applied AI engineer on the same order form.

2

Talent the Market Wants

You are interviewing candidates pursuing $200K+ roles. The caliber is the point, and the hiring decision is always yours.

3

A Team Behind Every Hire

A dedicated Customer Success Manager runs your search end to end, from roster access through your engineer's first day.
